Hello, I’m Hsuen!

I’m a full-time data scientist and a wannabe full-time traveller. Softly Landing started as a side project, but really it’s just an extension of how I plan my trips and see the world.

When I travel, I’m usually chasing three things: good food, nature, and city-scapes. I like places that are walkable, feel lived-in, have good local food spots and scenic views. If your idea of travel involves planning meals before museums… we’ll probably get along.

Unfortunately I’m not much of a history or museum person (I really wish I was). That said, if my travel buddies drag me along, I might still write about it, so you’ll get the perspective of someone who went slightly against their will.

I’m based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia—a city that takes food very seriously and somehow still flies under the radar. Most of my trips start from here, and many of my recommendations are shaped by short, intentional getaways rather than long, luxury holidays.

If you like practical itineraries, honest food recommendations, and trips that feel unhurried but well-planned, you’re in the right place.
